2016 Tour

BDO North Island Charity Ride 2016

On 15th February 2016 36 riders will partake in a 9 day challenge cycling from Cape Reinga to Cape Palliser over 1300km, averaging 148.6km per day.  Our goal is to raise in excess of $150,000.

Outlined here under is a snapshot of the daily distances involved and overnight stops. We decided to ride East into the rural community to again raise awareness for the Rural Support Trust as there is also an endemic of depression and suicide in this area.

Charities For The 2016 Tour

While there are many worthy charities to ride for, selecting one where funds go directly to the cause rather than being absorbed in administrative costs is one of the more difficult tasks. Getting the potential trusts to speak with us about where the money raised for them is spent and what affect that will have on the community.

We have deliberated on which charities we would ride for on our 2016 tour and have agreed on the below three charities.

  • Life Education Trust Taranaki

  • Taranaki Rural Support Trust

  • Taranaki Retreat

We decided upon these three charities for a number of reasons. Firstly, the Life Education Trust and the Taranaki Retreat we see as an extension to the awareness of depression and suicide which we generated in our 2015 ride. It all begins with our youth, by giving them the right education to assist them in making the right life choices. The Taranaki Retreat is a great escape for families or individuals who are going through difficult times, to help the healing process and contribute to a positive outcome.
